Residents in Sunset were awoken by heavy police presence early on the morning of October 4th after an officer involved shooting lead to a pursuit from Calgary to Cochrane.

The incident began in the Calgary community of Huntington Hills, where officers tracked a stolen truck. HAWCS was called in to assist and track the vehicle, which parked beside another truck near 12 Mile Coulee Road, and Blueridge Rise N.W.

Calgary Police Superintendent James Hardy says the situation escalated when officers tried to conduct a traffic stop around 2:20 a.m.

"Officers then moved in to contain both vehicles, at that time the driver of the second vehicle surrendered to police," he says, "The driver of what is believed to be the stolen vehicle seen in Huntington Hills got out and jumped into the second vehicle. It was at this time the driver maneuvered the vehicle in close proximity to the officers, one officer fired his service firearm at the vehicle, the truck then fled at a high rate of speed."

The suspect then drove to Cochrane and exited the truck, Calgary Police, along with RCMP located the vehicle and one man was taken into custody.

Police believe at least one round struck the vehicle, however no one was injured in this incident.

The Alberta Serious Response Team (ASIRT) is now reviewing the investigation, as police fired shots in this incident.

Charges are pending against both men involved.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Calgary police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers.
