Inclement weather earlier this week has caused an indefinite closure of the Town and Country Centre.

Dari Lang, Team Lead of Bookings and Events Services with the City of Airdrie, said that the building received substantial water damage as a result of heavy rains on Sunday (June 4) night. Luckily, the damage is repairable. Lang explained which parts of the building saw the most water damage.

"Primarily the carpet and some ceiling tiles. We're just drying it out, and then our contractor will make a full assessment and we'll have a timeline then on when the construction can begin and end."

Because of the closure, a number of events scheduled at the building need to be relocated.

"It depends on how long the facility is going to be closed for, and as I said, we don't know that information as of yet. But what I can tell you for this week, and we are being very optimistic, there have been approximately twelve events that we have contacted and relocated."

Lang said the City of Airdrie is working with all those events to find alternative arrangements at other City of Airdrie facilities, at no extra cost.
