Things turned out alright for Tails to Tell after their truck was stolen on Christmas day.

After a man walked into the shelter claiming his own truck had died and asking for booster cables before snatching a set of keys off a counter and making off with a truck, the F-150 belonging to Tails to Tell Rescue Shelter was recovered on December 30.

Edna Jackson, owner of Tails to Tell, reported the theft to Airdrie RCMP who were investigating the case. Cst. Dan Martin said their files were used by Calgary Police Services when the truck was recovered.

On December 30, CPS received a complaint about a man asleep in a truck in Southwest Calgary. When officers arrived, they discovered that the license plate on the vehicle was stolen and didn't match the truck's VIN.

"They were able to cross reference their file with the Airdrie RCMP's file and the Tails to Tell vehicle was recovered, and a lone male was arrested in that vehicle and charged appropriately."

Cst. Martin did not have information on the suspect that was arrested.

Jackson said they are excited to get their truck back, which is still in the shop undergoing repairs including the replacement of a window.

"Parts of it are missing, which doesn't make a lot of sense but who knows, and it's also having to go through biohazard because there's blood in it plus other things we won't mention."

The loss of the truck was originally a huge challenge to the shelter, as it was the only way to transport cats to the vet in Didsbury in the case of emergency. Even so, Jackson said everyone from the shelter's volunteers to police to the community at large stepped up after the truck was stolen.

"Lots of support from everybody. The volunteers as well, but the people who read about it and knew about it and knew how much that truck means to us here."

Jackson said they received many messages of support on social media after the theft, and CPS continue to inform them on developments in the case.
