Just how important the role of technology is in Rocky View School classrooms is being pointed out with the appointment of a new Director of Technology by Superintendent Greg Luterbach.

Luterbach has named Scott Mahan to the post, effective August 15th.  Mahan has been with the division since 1996 and has served for the last ten years as a Learning Specialist with the Technology for Learning Branch.

Mahan started out as a teacher at Mitford School in Cochrane and became acting assistant principal at the school in 2002.  A year later he became a member of the Langdon school community, serving as a teacher, assistant principal, acting principal and principal from 2003 to 2008 when he joined the Education Centre.

As a learning specialist for the past decade, Mahan has helped plan, deploy and manage core educational technologies.

Mahan holds a Bachelor of Physical Education and a Bachelor of Education After Degree, both from the University of Calgary.  He's participated in, and helped organize, a number of professional development opportunities within the jurisdiction, Alberta Education, the Calgary Education Foundational Partnership and the Centre for Leadership and Learning.

About Mahan, Luterbach says, "Scott brings a wealth of experience in working with site-based administrative teams, teachers, product vendors and system developers to enhance and enrich the learning environment through technology integrations.  I believe him to be a student-centric leader whose passion for technology will help align all of the innovative work that is occurring in our jurisdiction and the broader educational field."\
