The City's Water Services Department has been working on a proposal that could affect your household use of water.

As the concern for water conservation increases, the need to preserve our water resources are top of mind, which is why council will be hearing a proposal for a Water Conservation Bylaw on Monday, November 21.

There are currently strategies in place that have been working towards reducing water consumption, but the City feels there is more that can be done.

The proposed Water Conservation Bylaw includes the requirement of low-flow and high efficiency plumbing fixtures with all new construction, prohibiting garburator installation for new buildings, and scheduling outdoor watering.

The City already offers a $50 incentive to all home owners who replace their toilets with a high efficiency toilet, which will continue with or without the new bylaw being passed.

In addition to the bylaw, the proposal also includes the concept of developing web-based communication that would include the opportunity to share ideas and encourage community involvement and support.
