With the Federal Government slated to legalize recreational Cannabis this summer, the city is preparing itself with its own legislation.

Staff within the Legislative Services department at the City of Airdrie have been working on information and an overview of the province's legislation that will be presented to City council in March.

"As staff, we provide them (council) with the information and then they will weigh that information and make a decision on whether they want to be more restrictive or align with the guidelines,' said Kari Kitiuk, Assistant City Clerk, MMC, Legislative Services.

Included in the proposed legislation will be the guidelines and licensing restrictions for businesses that want to sell recreational cannabis.

"This will be set out in both the land use bylaw and our business licensing bylaw. To date, no decisions have been made."

Kitiuk sad the city is hoping to have an information report together to be presented to City Council on March 19.
