On Friday, the Airdrie Health Foundation held a special presentation to light up the Tribute Tree in front of the Airdrie Health Clinic.

Along with the special presentation, a special person was picked to light up the tree.

“We did a colouring contest for our first annual celebration; we were fortunate enough to have 4 donations of prizes. One of the prizes was whoever won would also be the person that gets to light up the tree, which was Cade Stedman,” said Michelle Bates, Executive Director for the Airdrie Health Foundation.

“This is the beginning of our Tribute Tree Campaign and this is a campaign we started last year by having a tree decorated on the inside, which we have again this year.”

For the tree inside, for a $10 donation, you can have a loved one's name placed on an ornament on the tree.

“We're hoping to get a whole lot more decorations and loved one's names. We also display the names on a sheet of paper in the Health Center so people can just read the names if they don't want to touch the tree.”

Adding a tree outside also means adding to the Tribute Tree Campaign.

“We thought we could expand our Tribute Tree Campaign to include the outside tree and for a $15 donation, we're going to add coloured lights to make it beautiful.”

Bates goes on to talk about different things she would like to do with the tree outside.

“Hopefully we can use it throughout the year. We can place different coloured light bulbs for different times of the year and maybe do other campaigns with it.”

All donations will go towards the foundation's Pregnancy and Beyond Program. The program helps build resiliency in young moms that need a little bit of extra help.
