If you're looking for predictions on Sunday's Grey Cup between the Calgary Stampeders and Toronto Argonauts you go to the real experts.  Expert politicians that is.  We sought out prognostications from people in three levels of government in Airdrie.

Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown, Airdrie UCP MLA, Angela Pitt and Banff - Airdrie Conservative MP, Blake Richards were all more than willing to provide their forecasts for the game.

Mayor Brown doesn't think it's even going to be close.

"I think the Stamps are going to blow them out.  I was watching both games (Western and Eastern finals) and honestly, I think we've got more power, better offense, and better defense. The only concern I have is the Argos have a pretty good secondary so we'll have to see how that goes."

Brown thinks the Stamps will double up their eastern opponents.  "I'm going to guess 32 - 16."

Even though he's sure Calgary will win the game, Brown laughs that he isn't placing any bets.  "No. No, if an Airdrie team was in there I guarantee that I would."

MLA Pitt also thinks the Stamps are a shoo-in to take the Cup this year after last year's disappointment.

"This is hard-hitting news.  I think there's going to be a ton of happy Stampeders fans because they're going to win this thing 30 - 20."

Pitt puts her trust in Calgary because of it's close proximity to Airdrie.

"We've got a great Alberta team entering into this great football game.  You know our Stampeders are closest to Airdrie so why wouldn't they be the winners at the end of the day."

We also broke the news to Pitt that Premier Rachel Notley would most likely be pulling for the Stamps to win on Sunday and asked her if it bothered her in the least, knowing that an NDP and a member of the UCP actually agreed on something.  Pitt came through with a classic answer.

"Hey, you know what?  It's a good day in Alberta when the Premier is finally onside with me!"

MP Blake Richards is in agreement with his municipal and provincial counterparts.

"I'm taking Calgary over Toronto any day.  I'll go Stamps 27 - 17."

Richards provides his reasoning behind the prediction of a low scoring game.

"It's supposed to be fairly cold in Ottawa. The wind's high so that may cost someone a field goal or two so I'm thinking a little low scoring game. Of course, for the CFL 27 - 17 is pretty low scoring."

When asked who he thinks Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be hoping for on Sunday, Richards laments, "It seems like typically he pulls for anybody outside of the west so I would have to assume that means Toronto.  That seems to be the way he approaches his politics and his government so I'm assuming he'll approach his football the same way."

So, there it is.  Three expert predictions all calling for Stampeders wins.  Now, should Toronto win, it's unlikely that we'll get them to make any predictions on the outcome of their respective elections in the future.

Sunday's Grey Cup in Ottawa kicks off at 4:30pm Mountain time.
