One silver lining to the extreme cold Airdrie has experienced is that outdoor rinks are now available for use to the public.

Airdrie has five boarded rinks and four snow bank rinks located at various places in the city.

Currently, natural ice surfaces such as Nose Creek Park, Waterstone and Summerhill may be too thin for skating. The city only plows natural ice surfaces when the ice is between 10 and 12 inches thick. The City's last reported measurement on natural ice surfaces from December 7 has these surfaces at only 4 inches thick.
