Three teenaged boys were taken to hospital in Calgary after a severe thunderstorm that affected many parts of Rocky View County ripped through a campground in the tiny hamlet of Bottrel, causing a tree to fall on the tent they were in.

According to Adam Loria, Advanced Care Paramedic with Alberta Health Services in Calgary, they got the call at around 4:45 pm.  Paramedics went to the campsite at the Bottrel Store and Campground to find that a tree had fallen on a tent with three male teenagers inside.

One of the teens sustained multiple, serious injuries and Loria says he was transported to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.  His injuries are not considered life-threatening.  The two other boys were taken to the Alberta Children's Hospital in stable condition.

An eyewitness to the storm which passed through the area says it was the worst he's seen in his 70 years, with the hail too thick to see through.  He says as many as 40 trees were knocked down in the storm.

Bottrel is in rural Rocky View County, about 37 km northwest of Airdrie.
