You can add another name to the ballot for Rocky View School Trustees at the October 16th election.

Airdrie resident Pam Thursfield announced recently that she plans to run for the school board and explained the main reason why she's decided to run.

"I have been attending all the board meetings for the last two or more years and it's been hard to watch and not participate. So I would like to participate."

Thursfield has spent many years passionately volunteering for schools in Airdrie. She has volunteered at A.E. Bowers and launched the volunteer coordinator position at Muriel Clayton.

One of Thursfield's biggest priorities in this election will be trying to make school zones safer, an initiative brought forward by current Ward 3 Trustee Sylvia Eggerer.

Thursfield said there's another pressing issue she'd like to tackle.

"Looking into transportation, that's one of the big issues that's currently impacting the Rocky View School system right now with the new Bill 1. I'd like to take some of the accounting and administration background that I have to try and find alternate opportunities for us to save money, without actually affecting the service to our students."

The local mother hopes to go door to door, meeting with other parents and hearing their concerns going forward.
