It’s that time of year again when farmers, ranchers and motorists will be sharing the road as spring has sprung and seeding has begun.

Agriculture for Life is reminding farmers and drivers that they will be sharing the road on many rural roads and highways.

Farm equipment ready to go on Highway 566

Marketing and Communications Specialist with Agriculture For Life Alana Julius says that drivers need to be patient when driving with farm equipment.

“Farm machinery moves slowly, on average 3- to 40 kilometres an hour so it’s important to slow down and leave room. There are also a lot of blind spots on the equipment so motorists need to keep back at least 50 feet so the operator can see you.”

It’s not only the motorists that need to be careful, Julius says that there are a couple tips for farmers as well.

“To start, making sure that all warning flashers, flags and lights are clean, visible and working properly. As well making sure to stay alert for hazards on the roads such as soft shoulders, loose gravel, potholes and those kinds of things and to always plan ahead and use hand or turn signals to let motorists know where you are going.”
