This Halloween, Alberta RCMP are reminding you to "stay safe, have fun and don't get haunted by bad decisions."

For all the little ghosts and goblins hitting the streets, filling their bags with candy and treats may be top of mind, but safety should be a priority as well.

Make sure your kids are visible by wearing bright costumes, reflective tape or glow sticks. They should also stay in well lit areas and could carry a flashlight so they can see better and others can see them.

Face paint is recommended over masks so that a child's vision and hearing are not impaired. If they are wearing a mask, make sure to take it off when crossing the street or walking from house to house. If weapons are a part of your kid's costume, make sure they are obviously imitations.

If your child is old enough to go out without an adult, plan a route with them before they go out and show them where it is safe to go for help along the route. Make sure they are with a group and making sure they have a cell phone with them is a good idea in case they need help.

Children should walk on the side walks and cross walks and go door-to-door down one street at a time rather than crisscrossing from side to side.

And of course, they should never enter a stranger's house or vehicle.

For homeowners, be sure to keep your house well-lit, keep walkways clear, and keep pets away from trick-or-treaters.

And, as always, report any suspicious activity you see.

Follow these tips to have a spooktacular night. Happy Halloween!
