If you plan to travel on the Trans-Canada highway between Alberta and BC this week, you may want to consider using an alternate route.

Between Monday, October 24, and Thursday, October 27, the Trans-Canada Highway was shut down near the town of Field due to a large rockslide that covered both lanes of the highway.

Although the highway has re-opened a single lane for alternating traffic, Parks Canada said that motorists could experience delays of up to an hour while crews continue to clear the area.

Between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Monday, October 31, to Wednesday, October 2, motorists should expect heavy traffic congestion, a reduced speed zone, single lane alternating traffic, and periodic delays.

If you wish to avoid the the congestion, Parks Canada suggests using the alternative route via Hwy 95 and Hwy 93S through Kootenay National Park.
