Yesterday (March 27), Mayor Peter Brown and members of Council and City Staff spent part of the day meeting with Alberta's Transportation Minister.

The meeting highlighted Airdrie's development plans and infrastructure needs and Minister Brian Mason was pleased with the meetings.

"I thought the meeting that we had at City Hall was excellent, friendly, cooperative. I look forward to working with Mayor Brown and his Council going forward."

The group drove around the city in an ICE bus, giving Minister Mason the opportunity to see new developments and the rate of growth in Airdrie. The Minister praised Mayor Brown's advocacy on behalf of the City and said he's made a strong case regarding some of the needs.

When asked directly about the need for another interchange with Highway 2, Minister Mason didn't commit to a firm yes or no.

"We'll see. Interchanges are very expensive and there are questions about who pays and how much, all of those things."

Mayor Brown did note that another topic of discussion was the problematic entry and exit into Sierra Springs, saying there was possibly some positive news on that front.

"Short term win for us is, we showed him very directly the left-hand turn onto Sierra Springs. We only have the one option now. The City's going to fully fund the project, so we hope that the Minister can convince his staff that it's an appropriate change for our community."
