Dreams of a united right in Alberta turned into a reality yesterday (July 22) after both the PC and Wildrose parties voted overwhelmingly in favour of joining together into one party, determined to unseat Rachel Notley's NDP in the next provincial election.

The PCs held their voting over three days and needed only a 50 per cent mandate from their members.  The Wildrose did all their voting on Saturday but needed 75 per cent of members to approve of the move.

In the end, it wasn't even close as both parties voted abut 95 per cent in favour of becoming the United Conservative Party.

Wildrose Leader Brian Jean said, "What a day for Albertans.  What a day for conservatives and what a day for Wildrose members."  PC Leader Jason Kenney told his supporters, "We are renewing the Alberta advantage with this democratic decision made today."

Both party leaders have said they plan to run to be leader of the new party.  The vote will take place October 28th.
