UPDATE

At 5:57 p.m. MDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

This thunderstorm is located 15 kilometres northwest of Drumheller and is moving to the southeast at 45 km/h.

This thunderstorm has produced a tornado in the past hour near Wimborne at 5:10 pm MDT. The tornado has since lifted and the threat of a future tornado is no longer imminent.

Environment Canada and the Alberta Emergency Alert have issued a tornado warning for Kneehill County and Starland County.

A tornado was spotted near Three Hills moving east at 50 kilometres per hour at 5:00 p.m. today, June 2.

Communities in the path of this tornado include Morrin and Rowley.

Seek shelter immediately in a basement or reinforced structure if a tornado develops. Get low and put as many walls between you and the storm as possible. Stay away from windows, doors and outside walls.

If you are on the highway and cannot avoid the tornado, seek shelter in a ditch or ravine.
