Remembrance Day is meant to remember those who fought for our freedom and those who continue to lay their life on the line.

Daimon Hillyard, a veteran with the Airdrie Legion, said  "Things that happened in World War 2, the world had to sit back and kind of understand and digest the idea that human beings can do terrible, terrible things to other human beings."

Hillyard feels it's important to have ceremonies every year.

"I think it's important to have ceremonies more for everyone to realize that this stuff still happens in the world, more than anything else," he said.

Hillyard feels that everyone shouldn't just remember one particular war but remember all wars and veterans that have fought.

"As time goes on, you have a kind of disconnect to what's really going on. You think World War 2, that's over, it's in the past and it's ancient history. But in fact, the very same things that do these things happen every day in different countries. One of the big mistakes is, it can't happen to me so therefore, it can't happen here. But the reality is, it can."

Hillyard served in Yugoslavia and Afghanistan.
