A new initiative is celebrating Canada's 150th anniversary by giving a platform to Albertans to tell their stories.

The Canada150in150 initiative is a video project that wants to spotlight the ideas, achievements or experiences of Albertans to commemorate our nation's milestone.

"It's about showcasing all the stories from Albertans that the world has not yet heard or seen from," said Eva Borsato, Chair of the Volunteer Steering Committee.

The project is getting people to submit short videos, up to two minutes in length, telling their stories as Albertans.

Borsato said that communities like Airdrie, due to our proximity to Calgary, sometimes get overshadowed. This initiative is a way to highlight our stories.

"You also have your own special, what I call, neighbourhoods. Your own special way of doing things. So we need to hear that. The world will, most likely when you hear the news, go to, 'Here's Calgary' or 'Here's Edmonton', but rarely do you hear about the other cities on the national news. This is our chance to shine, for every single person, organization, and company in Alberta."

The top 150 videos will be kept in a legacy ebook, and all the videos will be hosted online. The maker of those videos will also receive a custom Canada150in150 medallion and tickets to a Sarah McLachlan concert.
