Tomorrow (April 23) kicks off the first day of National Volunteer Week, and beside their annual red carpet event, Volunteer Airdrie is looking to celebrate in a new way this year.

"The second thing we're doing to celebrate volunteerism, not just for Volunteer Week but all throughout the year, is we're connecting it with the Canada 150," said Melanie Taylor, Executive Director with Volunteer Airdrie. "We're looking to have our own contest on how we as residents of Airdrie and as Canadian citizens have built the legacy of Airdrie and this country."

Volunteer Airdrie is hoping to highlight the legacy of volunteering in Airdrie by having residents submit their legacy and volunteering stories in one of three categories: Yesterday and today, here and there, and today and tomorrow.

"Tell the story of how you'd like to shape a change in volunteerism, or how it has changed from yesterday, or how we volunteer here in Airdrie or here in Canada to other places around the world."

You can learn more about the contest here.
