The many volunteers of Airdrie now have a chance to be recognized monthly for their community involvement.

Volunteer Airdrie has launched a new recognition program this month that was inspired by a similar program that is being utilized in Grande Prairie.

"We've wanted to do this for a while, we've just been looking for some sponsors and we provide this as a form of regular recognition of the contribution of the volunteers in our community," said Dave Maffitt, Volunteer Airdrie Chair.

Nominees must be submitted by the 21st of each month to qualify for the monthly recognition.

"The only criteria is that you're an active volunteer in the Airdrie area, so the city of Airdrie and surrounding area of Rocky View County. It is open to both children and adults and we will be making a random draw. We're not really gauging or judging the contribution that is being made."

The volunteer of the month will receive prizes, this month that prize will include $125 worth of gift cards.
