It appears Airdrie may have escaped the wrath of Mother Nature today.

Environment Canada had earlier issued a Weather Warning for much of northern and central Alberta. The warning extended as far south as the Airdrie region.

However, as of approximately 2:20 p.m., the warning was ended for all areas.

The condition of the QEII is now listed as bare between Airdrie and Leduc, at which point it turns to snow covered between Leduc and Edmonton. Some other secondary highways north of Red Deer are also snow covered.

This evening's forecast for Airdrie still calls for 5-10 cm or snow. You can find the full forecast HERE.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Environment Canada has issued a weather warning for parts of central and northern Alberta.

The forecaster says heavy bands of snow are moving through central Alberta. The warning stretches from as far north as Slave lake to as far south as Airdrie and Drumheller.

Snowfall amounts could reach between 10-15 centimeters and there's a possibility of reduced visibility.

Roads between Olds and Edmonton are reported in some areas to be covered in snow and ice so drivers are being urged to use caution if traveling north.

Airdrie's forecast for Tuesday is calling for periods of snow to begin late this afternoon. Winds will pick up from the north gusting to 50 km/h  this afternoon. The temperature will fall into the afternoon as the snow moves in. Tuesday night we are expecting to see periods of snow and local blowing snow this evening with around 5-10 centimeters expected to fall and wind gusting up to 60 km/h.

  • Mountain View Co. near Cremona and Water Valley
  • Mountain View Co. near Olds and Didsbury
