The 2017 Ride Of The Mustang officially came to an end this afternoon (April 13th)

After an exciting and exhausting 48 hours, students and staff gathered at the gym in George McDougall to wrap up the Ride and see the total amount they raised.

The Closing Ceremonies featured speeches from Mayor Peter Brown, Pam Davidson from RVS, George Mac Alumni Ash Kolstad and Michael Mao, whose battle with cancer inspired the first ever Ride of The Mustang.

Principal Garry Bell says seeing Mao encourage the students years later is heartwarming.

"His story truly demonstrated the seeds of where this cause came from and allows them to understand that they're truly making a difference."

Principal Bell and the rest of the Mustang faithful gave a loud cheer when the final cheque was revealed showing $118,207.29.

"It just shows the resiliency of the students here and the quality of character that they exhibit, it really just demonstrates who they are as Mustangs. I'm really proud of everyone who had a part in this."

The total amount was 8,000 more than last year's ride and Bell hopes next year will be better as they're already looking forward.

"We're already in planning mode and I can't wait to see what next year brings."
