Like most Albertans, Airdronians are excited to enjoy an extra day off this weekend as we celebrate Heritage Day.

We were curious how much Airdrie actually knew about the civic holiday, so we hit the streets and asked some questions.

The first question we asked was if Airdronian's know what we celebrate when we celebrate Heritage Day.

"No, I don't," answered Gail, before Jack piped up. "How about heritage?"

"I should know that," said Michael, a teacher. "Just celebrating all the different cultures put together that make Canada."

Airdronians were also unsure about how long we've celebrated Heritage Day in Alberta.

"I'm not quite sure," replied Ursella. "The actual celebration? I think it's been a long time. Twenty-five years? I don't know the actual day."

Heritage Day was first observed in 1974. The civic holiday is meant to celebrate the varied cultural heritage of Albertans.
