It's a building that's stood vacant in Airdrie for several years with no immediate plans to deal with it.

The old Canada Post Office on the corner of First Avenue and First Street remains unoccupied, and some people on local social media pages are wondering if anything can be done with it.

With the growing population and many groups looking for space to hold their functions, some have asked if this building could one day accomodate.

The building was reportedly closed for health concerns, with many believing that the cause was asbestos. However, Canada Post says that's not the case right now.

When asked about the status of the building, Canada Post sent this email to Discover Airdrie.

"I just wanted to confirm that there are no asbestos issues with this building. We continue to assess our options on what to do with the building in the future."

We replied back, asking that if asbestos wasn't the issue, why the building has remained vacant for so long. So far Canada Post hasn't responded.

Unfortunately, the City of Airdrie has little control over the building right now as it's privately owned and would require a new building permit.

So for now, the future appears uncertain for Airdrie's deserted post office.
