Temperatures have reached -36°C with the wind-chill over the last few days in Airdrie. Subsequently, parents are wondering if their children should be going to school or not.

Rocky View Schools' Communications Manager Lily Habberfield shed some light on the mandatory requirements needed for a school in Rocky View to close its doors.

"When snow conditions make roads impassable, and/or when the wind chill factor meets or exceeds -40°C, school closure procedures may initiate."

Many of Airdrie's private and independent schools share similar guidelines and will make their decisions to close or remain open, early in the morning.

More information on inclement weather, including school closure updates for parents, can be found on the RVS Website.
