Monday, October 10, was the start of Fire Prevention week, with a big focus on smoke detectors.

This years theme is 'Don't wait - check the date!', ensuring that all smoke detectors are replaced every ten years and batteries are replaced every six months.

Airdrie Firefighters started their fall home safety program on Tuesday, October 11, that will run through October and into November.

"Our Kings Height crew will be in Marquis Place and Chinook Winds will be in the Ridgegate Way, Ridgebrook Drive, and Rundle Place area, and our crews from Veterans will be in Farr Crescent, McCracken Crescent, Hawkey Cresent, and Flett Drive and Flett Place," said Linda Mason, Deputy Chief.

The Fire Department hosts their home safety program twice a year, completing their initial group of streets earlier this spring.

On Wednesday, October 12, one lucky grade five student will be named Junior Fire Chief for the day and will get a ride on the fire truck from their school to the Chinook Winds Fire Hall where they will get to have lunch with the crew.

The big wrap up event takes place on Saturday, October 15, at the Chinook Winds Fire Hall, for the Atco Gas Fire Safety day that will have hands on fire safety exercises, the hazard house, home safety checklists and much more.
