The 2019 provincial election will see the city of Airdrie split between two different ridings; Airdrie East and Airdrie Cochrane.

The changes to electoral boundaries came into effect in January, just in time for the election. Rural Alberta lost three MLAs with the changes while extra representatives were added in Edmonton, Calgary and the Airdrie-Cochrane riding was created.

Airdrie East includes most of the city, but residents on the far West side will be part of the new Airdrie Cochrane riding. People who live west of 24th Street, and South of 1st Avenue and west of 8th Street will have a brand new MLA.

In Airdrie, the new riding includes the communities of Sagewood, the Canals, Channelside, Bayside, Chinook Winds, Windstone and Windsong. Bearspaw, Balzac and the Town of Cochrane are also part of the expansive riding.
