A winter storm has blown into the mountain regions of Alberta near Banff and Canmore, bringing heavy, wet snow with it and a travel advisory from police.

Canmore RCMP say that the weather overnight has made for very poor conditions on the Trans Canada Highway west from Exit 114, the Highway 1X intersection, to the Banff Park Gates.

They report that at times there is very little to no visibility and snow is beginning to accumulate.

The on and off-ramps are also extremely icy.

RCMP are not recommending travel at this time.
