On September 15, gas stations in Airdrie will start making the switch to winter grade gasoline.

Dan McTeague, Sr. Petroleum Analyst with Gas Buddy said with the switch we should see lower gas prices.

"The winter blended gasoline is cheaper to make. Refineries are already going through the turnaround period in order to produce that kind of cheaper made gasoline, and that technically should mean lower prices for consumers heading into the second and third weeks in September."

In addition to the switch to winter grade gasoline, McTeague said that after the Labour Day long weekend, demand drops as much as 15 to 20 per cent, which also lends to a drop in fuel prices.

"With summer now officially behind us as far as driving is concerned, it lends itself to lower prices. It would look at least a 3 to 4 cent per litre decrease could be in the cards as early as this weekend."

Gas prices are currently sitting at 94.4 c/L at most gas stations in Airdrie, but Mcteague said by the weekend it could drop down to 90 c/L.
