The Airdrie RCMP are appealing to the public in search of anyone who may have been a witness to a disturbing assault where a City of Airdrie employee was struck in the face by a bottle.

Constable Dan Martin says on Wednesday, June 6th at around 11:00 am, the employee was mowing the grass at Nose Creek Regional Park in a northbound direction along Main Street when he was suddenly struck by a glass bottle.

Martin explains, "Thankfully the employee was wearing personal protective equipment and only sustained some cuts and bruising to the face which did require medical attention.  The employee did not see the person who did this.  At this time we believe the bottle was thrown from a moving vehicle."

Martin says the RCMP are appealing to the public for anyone who may have seen this incident occur.  They believe the vehicle was headed south on Main Street.  The city employee was wearing a hard hat, safety glasses and ear protection when he was struck.  Without that equipment, Martin says his injuries could have been much more severe.

"The potential for very serious injuries was there.   It is considered a head injury.  It was a glass bottle that was thrown and it broke upon impact.  Concussion issues and whatnot are still ongoing but the cuts are healing and the glass was removed from his face."

When asked if the RCMP thinks it might have been an accidental occurrence, Martin says definitely not.

"We believe it is intentional.  There's no reason to be throwing a bottle onto the grass at Nose Creek.  Somebody might have been doing this as a "joke." We feel that this is quite random and we have no reason to believe this person was targetted in any way.  It's probably a practical joke gone bad."
