Town of Cochrane Administration is hoping to hear from you regarding the proposed smoking bylaw.

The current proposal is for smoking to be banned 5 metres from the property line of any town operated sports field or facility. Julie Haskill, Town Of Cochrane, Communications Advisor, says with this type of bylaw not needing to go through public consultation, the town is looking for community members to weigh in before council makes a final decision.

"In this particular bylaw council wanted to give the public the opportunity to comment, as there is no mandatory public hearing. What that means is that they could have passed it but they did want to give residents the opportunity to give some comments and opportunities for engagement around this bylaw."

It is important for council to have an open and transparent process, shares Haskill, and while some community members really step up to voice their opinion a good majority don't.

"We always ask that our residents give us feedback, it does help council make decisions based on the comments received. It helps them approve a bylaw that is the best possible solution for our community."

The feedback form for comments is open until February 23, and you can do so here; council will make their final decision on the 27th.
