Travelers and Employees of the Calgary International Airport are preparing for the busiest travel season of the year.

Manager of Communications for the Calgary Airport, Sarah Urbanowski explains how busy it's going to get.

"We're heading into our peak period. Going to be seeing about 50,000 passengers traveling through the terminal each day with 51,000 coming through on Friday, which is our busiest day of the travel season."

The busy Christmas season officially started yesterday and will carry itself through the weekend.

With the thousands of passengers making their way through the airport, there are things you can do to help ease the stress of checking in including checking the baggage rules through CATSA.

"That can really help expedite the screening process," said Urbanowski, "Another thing they can do is check with their airline for recommended check in times, recommended arrival times and know their baggage allowances."

Of course, with the busy season falling over winter, Urbanowski said planning for that is also important.

"We do see weather impacts during the holiday season but they can be from all over Canada. It is important to check with your airline on your flight information."

The Airport is doing their best to make sure that those coming through the airport aren't left bored. Several activities including live Christmas music and a gift will be available for the next few days.
