It has been a month since the LOTTO MAX jackpot was won - and this morning a very lucky Albertan is waking up to being $70 million richer and it may very well be an Airdrie resident. 

According to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC), prize wins are listed by province when the winning ticket is sold outside of a major city. The last time someone won $70 million was back in October 2022, when a Calgary resident won it. 

"LOTTO MAX has rolled since December 15, that’s nine draws for those of you who like to count. [Last night's] jackpot is an estimated $70 million, plus 10 MAXMILLIONS draws – that’s 11 chances to win a $1 million (or more) prize all on one draw, The WCLC stated. "If [last] night's jackpot is won in our region, it will be tied for the largest LOTTO MAX win in WCLC’s history!"

The Largest LOTTO MAX wins by province in WCLC’s region include:

  • Saskatchewan: $70 million win in Regina on the April 1, 2022 draw – the largest prize in the WCLC's history at the time
  • Manitoba: $60 million win in Winnipeg on the January 22, 2021 draw.
  • Northwest Territories: $55 million in Yellowknife on the May 1, 2020 draw.
  • Yukon: $25 million in Faro on the November 1, 2013 draw.
  • Nunavut: Nunavut is hoping for their first-ever main jackpot win – will it be tonight?

The winning numbers for the January 16 LOTTO MAX jackpot are 2, 9, 10, 14, 42, 43, 44, and bonus number 25.
