Locally filmed The Last of Us had another rough night when it comes to award shows.

While the show has been a huge hit, they have once again fallen just short of capturing any trophies at last night's 75th Emmy Awards.

Here are the five Emmy Awards the hit show was nominated for:

  • Outstanding Drama Series
  • Lead Actor in a Drama Series - Pedro Pascal
  • Lead Actress in a Drama Series - Bella Ramsey
  • Writing For a Drama Series
  • Directing for a Drama Series

Unfortunately just like the three awards the show was nominated for at the Golden Globes, the show Succession ended up winning all of those categories and taking home the hardware.

Luckily the series had plenty of success at the 75th Creative Arts Emmy Awards earlier this month where it captured eight awards:

  • Outstanding prosthetic makeup
  • Outstanding special visual effects in a season or a movie
  • Outstanding main title design
  • Outstanding sound editing for a comedy or drama series (one hour)
  • Outstanding sound mixing for a comedy or drama series (one hour)
  • Outstanding picture editing for a drama series
  • Outstanding guest actress in a drama series (Storm Reid as Riley Abel)
  • Outstanding guest actor in a drama series (Nick Offerman as Bill)

“Alberta’s film and television industry has impressive momentum, and it is showing amazing economic impacts for our province. We’ve been told by executives at HBO that by improving our financial incentives, we’re now in the ‘major leagues.’ When blockbuster Hollywood productions decide to film in Alberta, hundreds of jobs are created, millions of dollars of investment are injected into Alberta’s economy, and our economy becomes more diversified," stated Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women Tanya Fir.

Recently, The Last of Us received more nominations, this time for the Screen Actors Guild Awards, they will be looking to head home with four different wins:

  • Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series - Pedro Pascal
  • Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series - Bella Ramsey
  • Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series
  • Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series

The awards show will take place on Saturday, February 24 on Netflix.

The hit series was filmed in the area around Airdrie. More than 180 Alberta locations were utilized in the filming of the first season.

Oxford Economics calculated that 'expenditure by the production of Season One of The Last of Us stimulated over $182 million of contribution to Alberta’s GDP from 2021-2022.'

The show, based on the 2013 video game, premiered on January 15, 2023, to nearly 5 million viewers.
