Four members of the Airdrie Aces Athletics Club were in Winnipeg last weekend (July 14-16) for the Western Canadian Championship track meet, and all four of them came home with brand new hardware.

Jinaye Shomachuk brought home three medals from the meet. Schomachuk achieved a personal best in the Midget Women's hammer throw with a 41.97 meter toss to earn the gold medal. She also won gold in the Midget Women's discus with a 29.28 meter throw, another personal best. Shomachuk also took bronze in the shot put.

Jasmine Szucs and Sara Zinck were both membes of the gold medal Midget Women's medley relay team. Szucs ran the opening leg of the race, and Zinck ran the third leg. There team was the B ranked team for Alberta going into the race, and was made up of three 14 year olds and one 15 year old, making the gold medal win a spectacular achievement.

Zinck also brought home a bronze medal in the 200 meter hurdles, running a personal best 30.05 seconds. Szucs also competed in that event, placing fifth.

Aidan Good brought home a bronze medal in the Men's Midget 800 meter race, finishing with a personal best 2:04.82. Unfortunately, Good did not perform as well in his preferred event, the 1200 meter. Early in that race, Good was stepped on by another competitor and lost his shoe, forcing him to run the remainder of the race with only one shoe and costing him the race. Good had been the favourite to win gold in that event.

Liam Hamm was supposed to join the team in Winnipeg, but bowed out on the day the team left Airdrie due to illness.
