The community of Airdrie is reeling following a deadly weekend shooting.

RCMP were called to reports of shots fired in the Canals neighbourhood of Airdrie at approximately 5 p.m. this past Saturday.

A 56-year-old man was found seriously injured outside a home and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mounties have identified the victim as Airdrie resident Daniel McDonald.

Michael Antony Roebuck, 59, of Airdrie was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder. He remains in custody pending a court appearance scheduled for September 19.

In the wake of the shooting, Airdrie and District Victims Assistance Society is encouraging anyone needing assistance dealing with the incident to reach out.

ADVAS Executive Director Michelle Wagner says they are here to support the community during times of tragedy.

She says people can experience a variety of emotions and feelings.

"Lack of sleep or trouble sleeping, sleeping a lot, lack of appetite, getting a little bit shaky, feeling nervous, a lot of anxiety, reacting to certain sounds or certain situations that they may not have in the past," says Wagner. "We let people know that everything they are experiencing is completely normal and completely individual to themselves, and to really take one day at a time."

ADVAS operates out of the Airdrie RCMP detachment and can be reached at 403-945-7290. More information can be found on the ADVAS website.

Community Links also offers services and supports. They can be reached by phone at 1-866-945-3905 or online.

"Airdrie's a very strong community. I think it's important for Victims Services, as well as everyone else in the community, to come together. And I just really wanted people to know that there are supports out there and that people don't need to struggle or suffer in silence," says Wagner.
