Six Airdrie athletes made the city proud with their performances at the first-ever Master's Games being held in Rocky Mountain House and Clearwater County.

The six collected three medals, two of them gold, and also accounted for strong efforts in all of the sports they were entered in.

Husband and wife Nick and Kendra Kolomyja are both gold medal winners after taking the male and female categories for age 30 to 54 in the Tomahawk Throw, a part of the Indigenous Sports at the games.  The Tomahawk Throw was the first of four competitions for the Indigenous Sports category.  The others included Tug of War, Leg Wrestling and the Flour Bag Carry.  The Indigenous Sport competition was a unique partnership that was coordinated by Kirby BigChild from the Rocky Native Friendship Centre.

Randy Molitor from Airdrie is bringing a silver medal back to the city for his performance in the male 69 to 69 Trail Run.  Molitor finished in a time of 48:14.17.

Linda Bruce turned in a time of 114:47.28 to place tenth in the Trail Run for females 5o to 59.

Chris Bentley went out in male 40 to 49 Cyclo-cross and placed fifth in the cycling event with a time of 55:22.5.

Teri Moore's Mixed Slo-Pitch team came in seventh in the 16 team tournament.

The games, which attracted over 1,000 athletes 30 years of age and over, wrap up later today.
