On Wednesday, during a Minister's visit to Airdrie, Deputy Premier Doug Horner delighted the crowd at Woodside Golf Course with news of $2.8 million in Green Trip funding from the province.

The money goes toward the purchase of Airdrie's bus fleet, improvements to bus stops like new concrete poured to make the stops more accessible for riders with mobility challenges, as well as storage and maintenance costs.

Transit Coordinator Chris MacIssac from the City says these funds are vital for a quality transit system. He says it's great to get the additional capital costs from the province and at the local level, Airdrie Transit is always committed to working with residents and users in building a transit culture that every community in Alberta is striving for.

MacIssac says it looks like the province is finally recognizing our transit requirements.
