It was a big day for Airdrie schools as Education Minister Adriana LaGrange announced the province is fully funding a new school in Airdrie, funding the planning for another school and was also named to the School Planning Program for another.

The new school in which Airdrie will receive full funding is slated to be a secondary francophone school, in the Conseil scolaire FrancoSud division.

" I know the Francophone families in Airdrie and surrounding communities will be absolutely thrilled with that news," explained LaGrange.

A new K-8 school in southwest Airdrie within the Rocky View School (RVS) Division is also being funded for planning.

'A design funding approval provides sufficient funding for the project to be fully designed for construction, tender documents to be prepared and to capture project expenses like permit applications. Construction funding is subsequently approved at a later time."

Airdrie will also be a part of the new School Planning Program for a new grades 9-12 school within RVS.

"It is intended to further develop the project scope and to complete site investigations so that projects can hit the ground running as soon as a formal design or construction is approved."

Budget 2023 supports 58 projects, which includes 13 full construction projects, 20 design, 14 planning and 11 pre-planning projects.

As part of the $2.3 billion in funding over the next three years from the Alberta government, they will also be investing in new and modernized classrooms and schools.
