The Airdrie Fire Department is reminding residents of the dangers of fire this May Long Weekend.

As it currently sits,  there is no fire advisory or ban in place but Deputy Chief Garth Rabel said that could change.

"We are supposed to have rain today but it still is very dry, we will continue to monitor the conditions regarding if we want to put out an advisory or ban, at this time we believe that people are responsible and we shouldn't have to take that route."

Currently, most of Alberta is under a fire Advisory or watch with the city of Airdrie being excluded from that list.

"We need to be really careful with open fires and BBQ's this time of year  and especially backyard fire pits this time of year as the grass is still quite dry."

According to Rabel, the potential for a fire advisory or ban to go into effect is all dependent on the amount of rain we receive after yesterday and today.

"If we get a little rain it should dampen things, if people are responsible then it really limits the problems".
