Community Links and the Airdrie Kin Club are continuing their partnership on a program with a Christmas-like name that is now benefitting people in need year-round.

This week the Kin Club presented Community Links with a cheque for $6,000 in support of the Silent Santa Program which is a partnership between the two.

Community Engagement Manager with Community Links Laurie Jacob-Toews explained what the program is all about.  "The Silent Santa Program is kind of a discretionary fund that we use to support people who might need some one-time assistance for some financial needs that aren't supported through any other vein. It's something the staff can access in kind of those emergency situations when someone may need some additional support."

Jacob-Toews said the support is only meant for people in need on a one-time basis when all other government programs have been exhausted.

The donation from the club is to last the program for the entire year.

"When we originally started the program with the Airdrie Kin Club, it was a donation that happened at Christmas but we decided over the years that Christmastime is often a time when there's lots of support, "Jacob-Toews explained of the name Silent Santa.  "There's lots of hamper programs, and there's lots of Christmas parties at Christmas.  It's often throughout the year that people will need this extra support."

Jacob-Toews said Community Links is thrilled to be continuing their partnership with the Airdrie Kin Club on the program.
