The Airdrie Pro Rodeo is returning this year from June 28 to July 1 at the rodeo grounds just west of Airdrie on Highway 567.

The weekend-long event is looking to entertain all Airdronians who want to come out and enjoy the jam-packed weekend

Darcy Munro, Media Relations with the Airdrie Pro Rodeo talked about what else is happening at the grounds other than just the rodeo.

"This year we're looking at a petting zoo and face painting. We have a marketplace that is growing every year with local vendors. You're going to find some great buys there and all kinds of food trucks will be present."

Of course, they will also be hosting cabarets in a tent on the rodeo grounds once the events are done for the day Friday night and Saturday night (may change as planning is still in the process).

"We're very honoured to welcome in local boy Brendan Lorenzo and his band. They'll be playing on a Saturday night the 29th."

Once again some of the best cowboys and cowgirls out there will be at Airdrie's rodeo.

"In Airdrie, you're not only just top-notch cowboys and cowgirls, but we've also got Canadian champions and world champions, a lot of recognizable names."

Here are all the different events that will be held over the weekend-long event:

  • Bareback

  • Bull Riding

  • Ladies Barrel Racing

  • Saddle Bronc

  • Steer Riding

  • Steer Wrestling

  • Team Roping

  • Tie-Down Roping

For junior rodeo events, there are Mutton Busting, Sheep Scramble, Calf Scramble, Wild Pony Race, Pee Wee Barrel Racing and Jr. Barrel Racing.

The new Miss Pro Rodeo Airdrie will be introduced at the rodeo. The three contestants, Georgina Gardner, Kyla Lightfoot and Tiffany Hiller will compete for the crown at the Wild West Fashion Show on May 25.

"The nice thing with the pro rodeo is there are so many new folks moving to Airdrie. It's an opportunity for them to come out, meet the community and be a part of that community."

Munro finished off by saying this is also a great way to celebrate Western heritage.
