Airdrie RCMP is investigating a theft and shooting at a rural property north of Airdrie near Linden on Township Road 304.

Police received a report of the incident early on Saturday morning, at 1:30 a.m.

"[The] Investigation reveals that the victim observed suspects in two vehicles stealing gas from his rural property. When the victim approached the suspects with his vehicle, the suspects fled in their vehicle," police stated.

As the suspects fled, one rammed the victim’s vehicle. Simultaneously the victim’s vehicle was struck by bullets fired by one of the suspects. The suspect vehicles are described as a newer model silver SUV and an older model white or silver truck with front-end damage.

Police warned homeowners about the dangers of approaching suspects as they continue to investigate.

"RCMP officers are specifically trained and equipped to deal with the hazards of interdicting suspects while they are committing crime," said Sgt. Greg Tullock of the Airdrie RCMP. "When you see a crime in progress your first action should be to call the police.”

Airdrie RCMP GIS and Crime Reduction Units as well as the Southern Albert Crime Reduction Unit are supporting the investigation.
