Airdronian Keagen Slaney spent this past hockey season with the Western Hockey League's (WHL) Calgary Hitmen.

This season Slaney got a taste of what it was like playing in the WHL playoffs. The Hitmen lost the series to Red Deer four games to one.

"I was fortunate enough to be given an assistant captain role this year on my team. Our team made the playoffs as the seventh seed. We made a good run trying to beat Red Deer (Rebels)."

Slaney had 60 games played this season, garnering 13 points, eight assists and five goals.

"There were lots of ups and downs, I feel like I could have produced a little bit more than I did.  I think that I played my role really well, I think I was a good leader on the team."

Slaney is going into his final year of junior hockey as he is turning 20 years old.

"As of right now, I'm still with the Hitmen, but at any time that could change this year, and I could end up somewhere else. We'll just wait and find out."

With his final year on the horizon, Slaney mentioned this year is all about having fun.

"I want to really make the push for the next level, whether that's university or whether that's pro anywhere."

Of course, Slaney does hope to make the playoffs and make one final push for a WHL championship.

"We had such a close group of guys, our coaches and staff did a great job early of establishing what our culture is going to be and making sure we stick to that. I think we did a great job."
