After getting shutout 3-0 on Saturday (January 6) against the Red Deer Chiefs, the Airdrie Bisons finished the weekend with a 5-5 tie against the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Ron Ebbesen Arena yesterday.

The Bisons opened the scoring 7:09 into the first period with a powerplay goal from Brett LeGrandeur. That was quickly followed by a goal from Kye Buchanan to put the Hurricanes on even footing with the Bisons, setting the pattern for the game.

In the second period, the Hurricanes took their only lead of the game off a goal from Dylan Nevil 5:48 in. Jacob Cathcart evened the score about two minutes later, and Cayde Augustine reclaimed the lead for the Bisons halfway through the period.

In the third, while Ryan Ries sat in the penalty box, Kadyn Chabot scored a powerplay goal to even things up. A second goal from Augustine reclaimed the lead for Airdrie 7:00 into the period, but Ronan Seeley closed the gap three minutes later. As time ran out, Tyrel Bauer scored, helping the Bisons take the lead one last time, but with two and a half minutes left in the game, Kadyn Chabot scored a second powerplay goal, tying up the game 5-5. As per AMHL rules, the game did not go into overtime.

Bisons goalie Steven Bacovsky, despite allowing five goals, was solid in net with 40 saves, more than double that of Lethbridge goalie Byron Fancy.

The Bisons will be back in action next weekend when they go out on the road to face the Grand Peace Storm on Saturday.
