Drivers helped nab an intoxicated driver Monday as Airdrie RCMP and Alberta Sheriffs responded to multiple 911 calls of an impaired driver traveling southbound on the Queen Elizabeth Highway.

Police located the vehicle in the Airdrie Safeway parking lot and arrested a 67 year-old man from Chestermere without incident.

Police transported the accused back to Airdrie RCMP detachment and obtained two breath samples of 280 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood, approximately 3 and 1/2 times over the legal limit.

The man has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and will appear in Airdrie Provincial Court.
