At their meeting Monday afternoon, Cochrane council passed a series of motions that would invite residents to vote by the end of spring, 2012, on the future of public transit in Cochrane. At a morning press conference, Mayor Truper McBride announced the plans for a plebiscite and said they'll be launching a public awareness campaign so people will know the real facts about plans for public transit.

McBride says he's hearing a lot of residents say that council needs to focus more on plans for local transit and maybe the inter-city service can come later. He says that's what talks need to include in the new year, adding that the experts the Town has brought in from Stantec and the Calgary Regional Partnership feel there is a definite market for inter-city transit.
