COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Alberta with today's (September 23rd) new case count passing the 1,500 mark once again. 

There were 1,660 new cases reported today from 17,896 tests, making our positivity rate 10.7 per cent.  The new cases propelled the number of active cases in the province past the 20,000 mark with 20,180 cases.  

The number of people in the hospital also saw a large increase to 1,058. The number being treated in ICU rose to 226 today.  

In Alberta 81.1 percent of the eligible population are vaccinated with the first dose, 73 percent are fully vaccinated. 

20 more Albertans died bringing that total to 2,611. 

In Airdrie as of September 22nd, there have been a total of 4,574 cases, 241 are active. 

82.1 percent of the eligible population are vaccinated with the first dose, 73.3 percent are fully vaccinated. 

Calgary city council approved a vaccine passport bylaw Wednesday that applies for the province's program consistently across many businesses in the city. It means people going to restaurants, bars, casinos, movie theatres and sporting events must show proof of vaccination or a recent negative test result to enter. Those who don't comply can receive a $500 fine.
