Airdrie's Aaron Dell was between the pipes in Madison Square Gardens for the San Jose Sharks last night (February 22) but was out-duelled by his New York Ranger counterpart.

Igor Shesterkin made 44 saves in the New York goal to backstop the Rangers to a 3 - 2 win over the Sharks.

Dell had 30 saves for San Jose who lost their third game in a row and saw their record drop to 26-31 and 4.  The Sharks are eighth in the Pacific Division.

One of Dell's saves was on a penalty shot.  Julien Gauthier, who was recently acquired by New York in a trade with Carolina, was hauled down on a breakaway.  On the ensuing penalty shot, Dell denied Gauthier on a backhand.

Dell's personal record is now 12-13 and 2 this season with a 2.90 goals-against-average and a .909 save percentage.  Dell has appeared in 30 games and has logged 1,656 minutes this season, the most in his NHL career.

This afternoon San Jose moves on to play the New York Islanders.

The Calgary Flames begin a crucial five-game road swing tonight with a game in Motor City against the Detroit Red Wings.  The Flames also play in Boston, Nashville, Tampa Bay, and Florida on the trip.

Calgary has fallen out of a Wild Card playoff spot in the West but only by two points.  Arizona holds the first Western Wild Card spot with 70 points, Winnipeg the second with 69.

The Flames have 68 points and need some wins on the road to stay in the race.
